What you’ll do:
We are seeking a Venture Strategy Consultant to lead high-impact commercialization engagements for SBIR/STTR-funded dual-use startups. This role is delivery-focused and analytical, combining structured research, founder-facing advisory work, and disciplined execution within a defined commercialization framework. You will work directly with early-stage companies, especially in defense and energy markets, helping translate complex technologies into actionable commercialization strategy.
Typical functions include:
- Lead TABA consulting engagements with SBIR/STTR-funded small businesses to support commercialization of emerging technologies.
- Conduct structured interviews with founders and technical teams to assess value propositions, R&D strategy, commercialization readiness, and market positioning.
- Perform technical, competitive, and market diligence using structured frameworks and AI-enabled research tools.
- Synthesize information and develop actionable next steps, commercialization roadmaps, techno-economic assessments, and strategic growth recommendations.
- Actively engage with external networks, including investors, industry partners, federal program offices, and ecosystem stakeholders to inform advisory work and create actionable connections for clients.
- Provide guidance across SBIR/STTR pathways, non-dilutive funding strategy, IP positioning, compliance considerations, and capital readiness.
- Prepare and deliver high-quality written reports and strategic briefings that inform critical growth decisions.
- Manage engagement timelines, expectations, and deliverable quality across multiple concurrent projects.
- Contribute ideas to continuously improve internal tools, templates, and AI-driven workflows.
Successful candidates will have the following qualifications:
- 5+ years of relevant experience in consulting, venture advisory, innovation programs, or technology commercialization or equivalent advanced education with 2+ years of experience
- Familiarity with the U.S. SBIR/STTR ecosystem; prior TABA experience is a plus
- Strong analytical capability with ability to synthesize technical and competitive information into clear commercialization strategy.
- Experience working with early-stage startups, particularly in defense, dual-use, or energy markets.
- Demonstrated ability to build and leverage professional networks across innovation, investment, or federal technology ecosystems.
- Demonstrated ability to operate independently while delivering several client engagements in parallel within a structured advisory framework.
- Clear enthusiasm for leveraging AI and modern research tools to increase analytical depth and delivery efficiency.
- Strong written communication skills, including experience drafting technical or strategic reports.
- Interest in defense and/or energy innovation ecosystems

Compensation:
- Base salary range: $92-110k
- The salary range listed for this position is based on market data and internal compensation structure. The final compensation package will be determined based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skills and education. This range is not a guarantee of compensation, and offers may fall outside this range in exceptional cases.
- In addition to the base salary, compensation includes performance based bonus (OTE) and ability to earn equity

Location:
The position will be set up as a hybrid work arrangement in either of the following locations:
- 3 days in person at our headquarters in Arlington, VA, and 2 days remote
- 2 days in person at our office in Boston, MA and 3 days remote
